Impact of McDonald's

27/06/2008 9:34:00 AM
The establishment of a McDonald's restaurant will contribute to the community of Stawell in many ways:

Local employment and career prospects: A rotating roster of approximately 80/85 people will be required, including 20 full time positions consisting of managers, crew, maintenance & marketing staff. Fully paid initial training in Melbourne for managers and crew; Crew scholarships & grants.

McDonald's Australia is a nationally accredited Registered Training Organisation (RTO). The organisation offers accredited courses to crew including Certificate II in Retail Operations and Certificate III in Retail Supervision. Restaurant managers, through course work, on the job skills and experience can complete Certificate IV in Retail Management, Advanced Diploma in Business and/or an MBA qualification.

Contribution to the local economy: Employing local residents means that these wages enter back into the local economy. Similarly, the utilisation of local resources for services, maintenance and repair required by the restaurant will filter back to the community. Estimates: Wages $600,000; Local Services Maintenance & Repair (including Electrical tagging, maintenance & repairs, Plumbing, Grease trap, garden maintenance & landscaping, hardware, stationary, sundries, etc) $60,000 plus.

Sponsorship of local initiatives and community groups: Every McDonald's restaurant is committed to contributing to the community in which it operates, and this often takes the form of local sponsorships and charitable donations. Many McDonald's licensees are also involved in educational programs providing mentorship to local high-school students on the principles of running a business. Estimate $26,000 plus.

Ronald McDonald House Charities: RMHC is a charity organisation, providing a `home away from home' for the families of children with serious illness. Since 1981, RMHC has provided over 35,000 Australian families with more than 750,000 nights of accommodation. McDonald's pays all administration & management costs for RMHC, with many employees volunteering their own time. Each restaurant plays a vital role in fundraising on behalf of the charity within the local community and donations through our marketing cooperative.

..as well as all the benefits of having McDonalds litter strewn up and down the Western Hwy. Is there no impartiality in this media organisation? Can't even think of one thing "against"? What about the impact of the existing local fast-food restaurants? What about the health of the local population? Anything?? So sad..
