Stawell City Brass Band members Simone Bullen and Karl Carman scored dual success at the Wimmera Bands Group annual music school held at St Arnaud.
Attending the school for the first time, Simone scored 96.5 per cent in grade one theory, while Karl, a seasoned student, took the gold medal in grade four theory.
This year's coveted Caleb Turner trophy, which was won by Mark Riedl last year, was won by St Arnaud's Daniel Wiseman.
Both Karl and Simone played in the Bob Woolley Concert Band for the week-long school, which climaxed in a brilliant concert on the final Sunday afternoon, showcasing the Dyson, Woolley, Boyle and Loftus bands.
Northern Grampians Shire Mayor, Cr Bryan Small made a surprise and much-appreciated presentation to the Stawell and St Arnaud bands of an additional $500 to their annual contribution.
He thanked the bands for their service to their communities.
A group of 75 students from across the Wimmera attended the school and and were billeted by townspeople.
Simone and Karl said the billets were awesome and the food and company were marvellous.
They would highly recommend the 2009 music school in Donald to everyone.
The 2009 music school will cater for all levels of practical ability and grades prep to six in musical theory.
All ages can attend and anyone interested should contact the Stawell City Brass Band early in 2009 for further details.
