Stawell Police are urging residents and business operators throughout the region to ensure their sheds and garages are securely locked.
Police have reported a series of burglaries recently, many involving items being removed from residential sheds.
Senior Constable Kade Stephens said police wanted to try and prevent these burglaries from occurring, but needed support from the community.
``We are really urging people to keep their sheds locked to prevent anyone from entering,'' he said.
``We have had a spate of shed burglaries of late, three in the one street last week and another one involving an industrial shed.
``Police want this type of activity stamped out, but we need people to do the right thing and lock their sheds.''
Stawell Police issued a warning to farmers in June to be vigilant and lock up their sheds to prevent thefts from occurring and now the focus has also moved into urban areas.
``Particularly if the property is left vacant for any period of time, we are urging people to be vigilant and lock up their sheds,'' S/C Stephens said.
``People should also keep a record of items in their shed and have valuable items marked or engraved, so if anything is stolen, they can assist police in recovering the stolen goods.''
