A 10 goal final term has lifted Swifts to a much-needed victory over Horsham District Football League strugglers Taylors Lake.
The Baggies, who had been the subject of heavy speculation during the week after the incident at Natimuk, led by just seven points at three quarter time before registering a 45 point win.
Jeremy Joiner and Lee Marshall both booted six goals in dominant forward line displays, and were amongst the better players on the day. However, it was ruckman Sam Cooper who took best on ground honours for the Baggies, after almost not pulling on the boots for Saturday's clash.
Coach Jamie Britten told radio on Saturday night that Cooper, who is being investigated by the HDFL investigation officer for an alleged hit on Natimuk ruckman Bryce Hateley, was brilliant all day.
``He is certainly upset by what is going on at the moment and he wasn't actually going to play but we talked him around it,'' Britten said.
``Certainly he stood up today and he played against (Tim) Kelm in the ruck and basically didn't lose anything all day.''
Britten said he hoped his team could stick together for their remaining four matches this season.
``We certainly hope we can push Pimpinio next week and come up against the top sides after the bye,'' he said.
``It should be exciting the type of footy we are hoping to play.''
Ricky Whitehead and Scott Carey were others to stand out for the Baggies, who have leapfrogged Edenhope-Apsley into ninth place on the ladder.
Dale Hurley's long awaited return was far from the fairytale he would have hoped for as Great Western was thumped to the tune of 181 points by Kalkee.
Two goals in the opening term had the Lions 17 points down at quarter time before the Kees stamped their dominance on the game. They piled on 32 goals for the match to the Lions three to hand Great Western its biggest loss of 2008.
Key players Sonny Walton, Marc Cook, Luke Schuyler, Bobby Garley and Nathan Shalders were all missing from the Lions side.
Tim Shalders, Aaron Williams and Richard Thomas stood tall for the visitors, with Dale Hurley named sixth best in his first match since April.
Great Western will host Edenhope-Apsley this weekend.
Other round 15 results saw Noradjuha-Quantong surprisingly draw with Laharum at 75 points apiece, Harrow-Balmoral beat Pimpinio by 144 points as did Rupanyup over Edenhope-Apsley. It was a remarkable turn around in form from the Panthers after being beaten by 32 points when the teams met back in round four.
- Swifts youngster Corey Cunliffe was the hero of the club on Saturday after booting 18 goals in his team's under 17 clash with the Lakers.
Cunliffe's amazing efforts helped the Baggies to a commanding 159 point win, their sixth of the season.
It also took his under 17 season goal tally to 57.
Cunliffe then played reserves later in the day and booted two goals to make it 20 for the day.
