Stawell Mitre 10 Warriors will hope to avert a re-occurrence of a post-victory hangover when they host Horsham Saints at Central Park tomorrow in the Wimmera Football League.
Just 12 months ago, after their famous win over Horsham Demons, Warriors struggled to get past the winless Saints at Central Park, eventually fending off the league cellar-dwellers to win by 25 points.
It will be the same team they meet again following last weekend's thrilling win over the Demons, with coach Dale Power hoping the victory hasn't taken its toll.
``We have to start well because last time Saints got a sniff and competed well all day,'' he said.
``It was only late in the game we got over them. They were winless at this stage last year but this year they are coming off a big win themselves over Warrack so they are obviously going okay.
``We have still got a pretty big month on the track and it's a matter of getting the mind on the job and not getting carried away.''
Power said he believed the signs were different on the field when the final siren sounded on Saturday to give them their second win over the Horsham powerhouse in two years.
``Last year we all tended to rush onto the ground where as this year was a bit more in perspective so hopefully the boys don't get carried away at all with what's going on.''
``If you beat Horsham in a finals campaign then you'll have reason to enjoy it.''
Warriors will be looking to handle the Saints with the same ease they did when the teams last met at Coughlin Park this year. Stawell really dictated terms for the entire contest and kicked away with a big second half to win the match by in excess of 100 points.
However, the Saints will be riding high on confidence after defeating Warrack Eagles last Saturday, the same team that proved too good for the Warriors just a few weeks ago.
``We were actually surprised earlier in the year that we ran away with the game the way we did in the second half. They'll be out to make amends, no doubt,'' Power said.
Despite good news from the doctors, Warriors will be without the services of forward Julian Carr after dislocating his kneecap at the weekend. Daniel Thomas should return from a coccyx injury as is Ben Scott from work committments.
However, players such as Travis Nicholson and Otto Adam will remain on the sidelines, with Damien McDonald expected to play in the reserves tomorrow in his comeback from injury. Tom Newton is expected to come up after a heavy knock on Saturday.
While the Demons are not likely to lose another match for the home and away season, Warriors will be pressing to make every post a winner as it still remains some chance of snatching a top spot finish and earning a rest in the opening week of finals. Demons sit four points and percentage clear at the top with another five rounds remaining in the season.
Warrack Eagles will look to bounce back tomorrow with a win over Dimboola, Nhill plays host to Horsham Demons and Horsham United tackles Minyip-Murtoa in a battle of the league's two bottom teams.
