 Navarre out to redeem

Navarre out to redeem

18/07/2008 8:35:00 AM
A strengthened outfit will take to the field tomorrow for Navarre's crucial Lexton Plains Football League clash with Carngham-Linton.

The Grasshoppers, who are still dwelling on their surprise loss to Illabarook last weekend, will welcome back defender Ben Crichton, young ball winner Louis Hannett and Luke Bibby from a knee injury into the senior side.

These three will come in at the expense of some under-performing senior players, who will be relegated to the reserves tomorrow.

Joint coach Ben Martin said it was going to be a difficult contest tomorrow and hoped for dry conditions to help his free-flowing band of youngsters.

``I think (last week) was a bit of a reality check for a few of the younger blokes,'' Martin said.

``I was pretty (annoyed) after the game, I was that disappointed.''

Martin said his team's defensive play was what lacked on Saturday and his charges were put through a special drill on Tuesday night to improve this aspect of their game.

``We did a special training drill to get it back in their head that that's what they need to do to win these games.''

Navarre will need to be at their best to match it with Carngham-Linton on their home turf tomorrow, to have any chance of reversing the 40 point deficit from earlier this season.

On this occasion, Clint Ladiges booted five goals for the Saints, with Nic Murphy named as Navarre's best.

Rokewood-Corindhap travels into the Pyrenees to tackle Lexton tomorrow.

The Grasshoppers task will probably be a bit easier than the bike riders tackling the Pyrenees in the Tour de France.

They are coming off one less days preparation, and also a tough match against Carngham-Linton, but will still be too good.

Natte-Bealiba is at home to Ararat Eagles with both clubs thinking this is their match.

Ararat has had some good results this year, but seems to have slipped back to their old ways lately, so will struggle at Natte Yallock.

Sunday sees Skipton going up against Illabarook.

The Emus scored an easy win last time, but this will be much harder.
