Barry Garbutt trained filly Continentalclassic ($8.20) produced an all-the-way victory in yesterday's fourth edition of The Maori Legend trot at Laidlaw Park.
Continentalclassic, who infact won her first career start in a restricted race at Maryborough on Thursday, was named as yesterday's first emergency but gained a start after Supapegasus and Kirsly Kept were both scratched from the event.
The daughter of Continentalman displayed impressive manners to lead the field by around 25 metres for much of the race.
Continentalclassic then held off late challenges in the straight to win by almost six metres to Maree Caldow-trained Magic Interest and roughie Kan Yu.
Driver Todd Matthews said he was now confident of a good showing in Sunday's Redwood Classic at Maryborough.
``It is a good form race for Redwood Day and the manners are a key part again,'' Matthews said.
``It will be a high pressure race and she will want to do everything right. I'm sure she will and she will be in the finish, don't worry about that.''
